I’m fighting through a strong bout of jet lag to write this! But it’s not often that I get to spend the weekend at a former Indian palace that once belonged to the richest man in the world, and I want to share my incredible experience with you. And, for those of you joining us to Connections Luxury in India in March, here’s a small taster of what’s in store…
After a 9-hour flight, I arrived in Hyderabad at 5am and, no more than 20 minutes after being picked up by my driver, I had reached the Taj Falaknuma Palace. Even in the dark, I could see that the building was completely out of this world – its magnificent white facade gently glows at night, and you can make out the rows of majestic arches and columns.
And, there was a surprise waiting for me…
Imagine my amazement when, despite it being the early hours of the morning, a horse-drawn carriage was parked in the drive, ready to escort me to my room. I felt like a princess, despite having just come off a long-haul flight!
The incredible welcome continued, as I was greeted by enthusiastic staff, who showered me with rose petals. Then, in front of the door to my suite, some more petals were scattered on the ground, crafted into a special welcome message. The attention to detail was just exquisite!
I was not too weary to take a few snaps of my Taj suite, which was elegant, and spacious – the walk-in wardrobe was bigger than my bedroom at home! And the bathroom was to die for. What’s more, there was a breakfast waiting for me in my room, so I could rest and then eat whenever I was ready. As well as providing an opulent welcome that would delight any luxury traveller, the comfort and convenience provided by Taj was spot on, and just what I needed.
After three hours of sleep (that’s how we roll at Connections) I was refreshed and ready for a jam-packed day with the lovely Delna, Taj’s associate vice president of sales – who many of you will remember from Connections Luxury in Italy last year – Ritesh, the Taj Falaknuma Palace general manager, and Shilpa, the hotel’s director of sales and marketing.
I also met with Loveleen and Karan from Distant Frontiers, our fantastic experience provider.
Over the next few days in Hyderabad, these guys showed me the best of what Hyderabad has to offer luxury travellers, and worked with me diligently to curate and incredible programme of cultural experiences for Connections Luxury in India. We had the best time, and they opened my eyes to the destination’s huge potential for a high-end itinerary.
Stay tuned to hear more about my escapades in Hyderabad!
